Medicine bottles, transferred to the Gaza Strip as humanitarian aid by Israel, were used by Hamas as grenades against IDF troops during Operation Cast Lead. Pictures of the grenades were obtained exclusively by The Jerusalem Post.

The medicine bottles were manufactured by the Jerusalem Pharmaceutical Company, which is based in el-Bireh, a town adjacent to Ramallah, and the global pharmaceutical company Shire. Leggi il seguito di questo post »

A free lunch for Hamas

Posted by Andrea Pompozzi su 7 febbraio, 2009

Justus Weiner , THE JERUSALEM POST

Daily Telegraph (London) correspondent Tim Butcher recently reported from Gaza after the war, stating: “Targets had been selected and then hit… but almost always with precision munitions… I was struck by how cosmetically unchanged Gaza appeared to be. It has been a tatty, poorly-maintained mess for decades and the presence of fresh bombsites… did not make any great difference… [O]ne thing was clear. Gaza City 2009 is not Stalingrad 1944.” Leggi il seguito di questo post »

UN halts aid into Gaza after Hamas hijacks humanitarian convoy

Posted by claudiacampli su 7 febbraio, 2009

The United Nations today halted humanitarian supplies into Gaza after Hamas forces seized an aid convoy.

Members of the Islamist group which controls the territory took control of 10 trucks in the second such confiscation within two days.

The aid had been intended for the victims of the Israeli offensive which killed 1,300 Palestinians, left 5,000 wounded and thousands homeless.

Christopher Gunness, spokesman for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) which supports much of Gaza’s 1.5 million population, said: “The Hamas government must return all of the aid that’s been confiscated… and we have to be given by the Hamas government credible assurances that this will not happen again. Yaakov Katz , THE JERUSALEM POST

UNRWA informed the IDF on Friday it is suspending humanitarian aid deliveries to the Gaza Strip after Hamas stole supplies it had transferred to the Palestinian territory.

The seizure of 200 tons of supplies, included flour and other staples, took place on Thursday night. In response, UNRWA (UN Relief and Works Agency) officials informed the IDF’s Gaza Coordination and Liaison Administration that it was suspending the deliveries until further notice. Published: February 6, 2009

JERUSALEM: The Israeli Navy intercepted a Gaza-bound cargo ship on Thursday, diverting it to an Israeli port where the people aboard were to be questioned, the military announced.

The boat, called The Brotherhood Ship, was carrying what its organizers said was humanitarian aid: food, medicine and toys.

The military said it worried the boat could “threaten security concerns” or be used to smuggle banned equipment, like weapons, “into or out of the Gaza Strip.” After searching the vessel, it said no weapons had been found. Leggi il seguito di questo post »

Gaza war creates rift between Israel and Turkey

ISTANBUL: The four daily flights to Tel Aviv are still running. The defense contract signed in December has not been scrapped. But since Israel’s war in Gaza, something has changed in relations between Israel and Turkey, its closest Muslim ally.

Israel‘s Arab allies stood behind it in the war, but Turkey, a NATO member whose mediating efforts last year brought Israel into indirect talks with Syria, protested every step of the way in a month of angry remarks capped by the Turkish prime minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, leaving a symposium at the economic meeting in Davos, Switzerland.

In the week since then, both sides have taken pains to mend fences, with officials in both Israel and Turkey making conciliatory statements. Leggi il seguito di questo post »

Gazans unimpressed as Hamas dispenses politics along with aid

Posted by Andrea Pompozzi su 30 gennaio, 2009

Jan. 30, 2009
Associated Press , THE JERUSALEM POST

The aid money from Hamas came with a heavy dose of politics.

A Hamas cabinet minister carried a carton stuffed with checks worth nearly $2 million into a Gaza tent camp pitched on the ruins of the Salam neighborhood, close to the Israeli border.

But before hundreds of homeless residents could collect, they had to listen to a political speech. Social Affairs Minister Ahmed al-Kurd told them Israel’s military machine was defeated and that the Hamas government would rebuild their neighborhood bigger and better. Top EU official: Hamas bears full responsibility for Gaza war

Posted by Andrea Pompozzi su 26 gennaio, 2009

Jan. 26, 2009 AP and JPost.com Staff , THE JERUSALEM POST

Hamas bears full responsibility for the war in Gaza, a top EU official said Monday in the Strip, calling the group “a terrorist movement.” “At this time we have to also recall the overwhelming responsibility of Hamas,” Louis Michel, European Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid, told reporters. “I intentionally say this here – Hamas is a terrorist movement and it has to be denounced as such,” Michel said as he visited the town of Jabalya in northern Gaza. TUNNEL PER LA VITA – EGITTO E ISRAELE GUIDANO LA CACCIA AGLI UOMINI TALPA

Posted by Folco Zaffalon su 25 gennaio, 2009

«I responsabili devono pagare»

GAZA
