The February 10 general election is still 19 days away, but Kadima ministers and MKs have already started lamenting in private conversations that they would have had a much better chance of winning had Transportation Minister Shaul Mofaz won the party’s leadership race. Aides to Livni: Beware of Mofaz campaign for Kadima power base

Posted by giacomofinzi su 14 dicembre, 2008

da: Haaretz http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1046199.html

Senior Kadima officials are calling on party chairwoman Tzipi Livni to be more involved in the primary vote on Wednesday. They say she could in effect find herself facing an opposition faction that would render her nearly powerless, in light of the all-out campaign by rival Shaul Mofaz on behalf of the people who supported his bid for the party leadership, a move aimed at building a power base for himself among Kadima’s MKs.
On Thursday, Mofaz put together a list of his recommended voting choices in the primary, and as reported in the Hebrew edition of Haaretz on Friday, he is very involved in trying to influence the party slate for the general election. Reports of his activities whipped up emotions within Kadima.
Senior figures close to Livni said they feared Mofaz was trying to take control of the party’s Knesset representation, while Livni prefers to maintain a more statesmanlike stance that could hurt her after the election.  Leggi il seguito di questo post »

ISRAELE VERSO IL VOTO

Posted by Folco Zaffalon su 10 dicembre, 2008

Michele Giorgio – Il Manifesto
GERUSALEMME

An Israeli Party Tips Further Right as Its Leader Woos Centrists

Posted by gaetanoditommaso su 10 dicembre, 2008

JERUSALEM — Primary election results in Israel for the opposition Likud Party this week have put its leader, Benjamin Netanyahu, in a bind: His list of parliamentary candidates is notably more hawkish than he is, making it harder for him to campaign on the promise to form a centrist coalition if elected. Analysis: When too Right is not right for the Right

Posted by Andrea Pompozzi su 10 dicembre, 2008

Dec. 10, 2008
Gil Hoffman , THE JERUSALEM POST

There aren’t too many things that anger the average right-winger in Israel more than seeing an Associated Press story with the modifier “hard-line” surgically attached to the word Likud, as it is according to official AP style.

Many complained when they saw those words combined while a Likud-led government withdrew unilaterally from the Gaza Strip. But times have changed, and since the party elected its Knesset slate on Monday, it will be harder to argue against that combination for the foreseeable future. Leggi il seguito di questo post »
